Copper Run has offices in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland but serves clients across the U.S. The firm's staff have a combined 100 years of investment banking and related Wall Street experience having been responsible for the origination, negotiation, structuring and closing of M&A transactions. The firm focuses on providing sell-side and buy-side M&A services primarily for privately owned and publicly listed midsize companies across a variety of industries including manufacturing, business services, energy, and healthcare. The firm's clients are primarily U.S. based with a large percentage in the Midwest. The firm has completed over 100 transactions and our professionals have completed deals with over $11 billion in cumulative transaction value.


Managing Director

We have an opening for a Managing Director – M&A, focusing on middle market companies in the Healthcare or Technology sectors. The successful candidate will have expertise in sourcing engagements, a broad network within the sector, and experience overseeing engagements to conclusion. Sales-focused self-starters who enjoy being part of a strong team will flourish in this position. We are open to hiring a multi-member deal team if that relationship already exists.


  • Drive new client engagements to the firm through direct calling efforts, building and leveraging a network of prospects and referral partners, and expanding Copper Run’s reach in target markets

  • Provide sound advice and recommendations to clients, assisting in the development of their strategy

  • Structure and negotiate transactions in the best possible terms for the client

  • Provide deal oversight, and when appropriate based on deal complexity, directly lead client engagements

  • Engage in the community as a brand ambassador for the firm via speaking engagements, association memberships, board positions, etc.



  • 10+ years of investment banking and/or M&A experience required, with 5+ years as a managing director

  • Deep knowledge, expertise, successful transaction history and existing network within the Healthcare or Technology sector

  • Refined ability to effectively sell Copper Run to potential clients and deals to transaction partners

  • Effectively lead and manage multiple day-to-day client relationships with CEOs/business owners, balancing multiple client engagements over the extended negotiation period

  • Ability to quickly grasp and guide client’s strategic plans and articulate to team and potential transaction partners as appropriate

  • Manage multiple deal teams and assume ultimate accountability for client service as well as lead and mentor junior bankers

  • Excellent understanding of corporate financial statements with financial modeling and analysis capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a major in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or other related field preferred

  • FINRA Series 63 and 79 licensing

Investment Banking Professionals

The firm has excess deal flow and is looking for bankers who can immediately help execute these deals as well as originate new ones.  

  • Experience in investment banking, banking, corporate finance, or similar fields;

  • A track record of:

    • sourcing deals (including the ability to originate leads, market the firm to the potential client, and manage the engagement letter negotiation process)

    • marketing deals (the candidate will have strong communication skills both oral and written and a willingness to personally contact potential counterparties for deals)

    • completing transactions (the candidate will have strong execution skills including compiling marketing materials, structuring transactions, and negotiating transactions including bringing deals back on track when they run into the inevitable roadblocks);

  • Capable of effectively leading multiple day-to-day client relationships with the CEOs / business owners over long periods of time and multiple client engagements;

  • Effective at marketing transactions to private equity, strategic buyers, etc. (ideal candidate also has strong existing relationships with said parties but not mandatory)

  • Self-motivated, personable (both with clients and colleagues), enjoys networking, and has a strong work ethic.

  • Ability to have fun and crack a joke.

  • FINRA Series 79, 7, and 63 a plus but not mandatory to start.


We have an opening for an investment banking Associate – M&A to support client work in our Columbus or Cleveland offices. The successful candidate will have proven financial acumen, a polished presence when working with clients and potential transaction partners, and a laser focus on delivering high-quality work in all aspects of the deal process. Problem solvers, self-starters and highly organized individuals will flourish in this position.


  • Directly support managing directors and/or vice presidents in deal work, taking responsibility for pitchbooks, list building, outreach, and modeling

  • Act as a point person in engagements, responding to all client and counterparty inquiries in a professional manner, with a sense of urgency

  • Identify and research potential acquisition targets for buy-side engagements and potential buyers for sell-side engagements

  • Analyze and organize financial statements and perform valuations using discounted cash flow analysis, precedent transactions, and/or trading comps

  • Create marketing materials including confidential information memoranda, pitch book presentations, teasers, case studies, market updates and target/acquirer company profile documents

  • Process and organize transaction documents, facilitating necessary updates and taking all possible steps to ensure timely completion



  • 2-5 years of applicable experience required, with specific financial, sales, and/or M&A experience strongly preferred

  • Goal-oriented, self-motivated and works with a sense of urgency

  • Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and successfully work under tight deadlines

  • Excellent team player with strong organizational and project management skills

  • Strong oral and written communications skills and comfortable making out-bound calls

  • Enjoys networking and is excellent at building rapport with both clients and colleagues

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a major in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or related field preferred
